AHBA Associate Council - March 2016

Associates and Affiliate Members,

As we enter into the beginning of our third month of 2016, time is passing by ever so quickly.  Last month I discussed the importance of growth, being active and participating on all levels within our local, state and national HBA’s. Spring is just around the corner and building activities on the rise, the expectation of becoming busier and organizing our time by strategically planning and scheduling becomes extremely important.  There are only so many hours in the day and how wisely we choose to spend our time as ambassadors for the very industry that supports our economy, ourselves, as well as our families is critical.  We must be engaged and focused on the direction we are headed and truly understand our collective goals as associate members.

I would like to bring to everyone's attention this month the NAHB’s Bringing Housing Home Legislative Conference.  The 2016 Bringing Housing Home Legislative Conference is taking place between March 7th and 11th.  I cannot stress how important it is that we all participate in this event and the impact that it will have within the building industry.  This event gives us an opportunity to voice our opinions and express how great the economic benefits of the housing industry are to our elected officials.  Although the House will be in recess during the week of March 7th, the Senate will be in session.  The NAHB is anticipating that opportunities will exist to meet with our local Senators in their home districts and make them aware of our support, and impact of, the home-building industry as a whole. This will also give us an opportunity to let our Congressman know that we will support those whom support our industry during this election year.
The NAHB has provided us with the tools to help all members participate by having an NAHB government affairs staff member assigned to every region of the country.  Alex Strong is the NAHB federal legislative director for the state of Arkansas and he can be contacted via email at astrong@nahb.org or by calling 800-368-5242 ext. 8279.  Please contact Alex with any questions you have as you plan and prepare to discuss the most pressing issues that are currently affecting the homebuilding industry in our great state of Arkansas.

As always, please contact myself, one of your Local HBA board members or Executive Officers if you are interested in helping to make a difference within the Arkansas State Associates Council.  We are always looking for the input and participation of other associate members that wish to enrich and strengthen our association.

Please know that I am here to help in any manner possible and always available to hear your concerns and needs.  Best wishes to everyone in their continued success throughout 2016!!

Kind Regards,

Bill Ross

The Home Builders Institute, NAHB’s training affiliate, is the largest Job Corps national trades training contractor. Given the severe labor shortage in the construction industry that is raising construction costs and harming housing affordability, funding for Job Corps is needed now more than ever. Let me, your State Rep know what you need and what is affecting you the most. If I can help I will, if not I’ll send you somewhere to find the help you need! Your dues go a long way to fund this association and make sure we are not over-regulated and wiped out from codes that are not necessary. Moreover, your contributions to BUILD PAC help to ensure we elect the right people to vote the way we need them to
