Let me kick off
February report by thanking all Executive Officers helping me at
the state association learn the task necessary to perform this job. Please know
I will continue to lean on each of you and “yes” ask basic elementary
questions. Please know I have attempted to write this report at least five
times starting the first of March. However, the current state of legislative
issues have literally consumed my time. Friday or Monday each have been
receiving an Legislative update so for the most part I will not repeat what has
already been written. The latest is HB1158 is sort of not going anywhere.
HB2001 has been written to sort of override that bill and it is just as bad or
worse. I will speak against this bill. There is a new bill HB1729 that is
approximately 37 pages long which outlines each agency and when that agency
needs to come before a review committee. In other words our licensing board
would come before some committee to validate Licensing of builders. At this
point and time I do not know where we officially stand on this bill. More to
come.
Please know your
AHBA (we) have been successful in establishing talks to organize a “Construction
Coalition” with Associated General Contractors AGC and Associated Builders and
Contractors ABC. This will be huge in my opinion for future legislative issues.
I was to attend
several events last month and two of them were canceled due to snow. However, I
was able to make it to Harrison to speak at their meeting held at Meeks Lumber.
Please click on the link below to find a nice article about what I hope to
accomplish throughout this state educating potential members on the importance
of membership but also educate the public of the economic benefits derived from
our hard work. Thank you Lloyd so
much…
