FEBRUARY ACTIVITIES

AHBA Members

Let me kick off February report by thanking all Executive Officers helping me at the state association learn the task necessary to perform this job.  Please know I will continue to lean on each of you and “yes” ask basic elementary questions.  Please know I have attempted to write this report at least five times starting the first of March.  However, the current state of legislative issues have literally consumed my time.  Friday or Monday each have been receiving an Legislative update so for the most part I will not repeat what has already been written.  The latest is HB1158 is sort of not going anywhere.  HB2001 has been written to sort of override that bill and it is just as bad or worse.  I will speak against this bill.  There is a new bill HB1729 that is approximately 37 pages long which outlines each agency and when that agency needs to come before a review committee.  In other words our licensing board would come before some committee to validate Licensing of builders.  At this point and time I do not know where we officially stand on this bill.  More to come.

Please know your AHBA (we) have been successful in establishing talks to organize a “Construction Coalition” with Associated General Contractors AGC and Associated Builders and Contractors ABC.  This will be huge in my opinion for future legislative issues.

I was to attend several events last month and two of them were canceled due to snow.  However, I was able to make it to Harrison to speak at their meeting held at Meeks Lumber.  Please click on the link below to find a nice article about what I hope to accomplish throughout this state educating potential members on the importance of membership but also educate the public of the economic benefits derived from our hard work.  Thank you Lloyd so much…

The Home Builders Institute, NAHB’s training affiliate, is the largest Job Corps national trades training contractor. Given the severe labor shortage in the construction industry that is raising construction costs and harming housing affordability, funding for Job Corps is needed now more than ever. October 6, 2023 FROM YOUR STATE REP, Keith Wingfield, River Rock Builders You may not see what we actually do, but you will feel it in your markets soon! NAHB and all of the officers, state reps and national area chairman stay hard at work on the issues that affect you the most, usually working on codes, regulations and any other issue that affects the cost of housing. Remember that you elected officials are making these laws, regulations, codes, and other rule making……if you want to be a part of the process make sure that you answer every CALL TO ACTION so that your input is heard! Let me, your State Rep know what you need and what is affecting you the most. If I can help I will, if not I’ll send you somewhere to find the help you need! Your dues go a long way to fund this association and make sure we are not over-regulated and wiped out from codes that are not necessary. Moreover, your contributions to BUILD PAC help to ensure we elect the right people to vote the way we need them to
