FEBRUARY ACTIVITIES

AHBA Members

Let me kick off February report by thanking all Executive Officers helping me at the state association learn the task necessary to perform this job.  Please know I will continue to lean on each of you and “yes” ask basic elementary questions.  Please know I have attempted to write this report at least five times starting the first of March.  However, the current state of legislative issues have literally consumed my time.  Friday or Monday each have been receiving an Legislative update so for the most part I will not repeat what has already been written.  The latest is HB1158 is sort of not going anywhere.  HB2001 has been written to sort of override that bill and it is just as bad or worse.  I will speak against this bill.  There is a new bill HB1729 that is approximately 37 pages long which outlines each agency and when that agency needs to come before a review committee.  In other words our licensing board would come before some committee to validate Licensing of builders.  At this point and time I do not know where we officially stand on this bill.  More to come.

Please know your AHBA (we) have been successful in establishing talks to organize a “Construction Coalition” with Associated General Contractors AGC and Associated Builders and Contractors ABC.  This will be huge in my opinion for future legislative issues.

I was to attend several events last month and two of them were canceled due to snow.  However, I was able to make it to Harrison to speak at their meeting held at Meeks Lumber.  Please click on the link below to find a nice article about what I hope to accomplish throughout this state educating potential members on the importance of membership but also educate the public of the economic benefits derived from our hard work.  Thank you Lloyd so much…

AHBA Supports Brandon Anchor for State Senator in District 13

The Arkansas Home Builders Political Action Committee (PAC) has proudly contributed $2,000 to Brandon Anchor, who is running for State Senator in District 13. The AHBA PAC supports candidates who understand the importance of housing, construction, and economic growth in Arkansas. Brandon Anchor has shown a strong commitment to policies that promote homeownership, workforce housing, and responsible community development. “Brandon has been a consistent advocate for Arkansas’s builders and homeowners,” said John “Tommy” Wright, longtime builder and AHBA member from Maumelle. “We’re confident he will be a strong voice for the housing industry and for economic development in the State Senate.” Anchor expressed his appreciation for the support, and was honored to receive the endorsement and contribution from the AHBA PAC. Housing is key to the strength of our communities, and I look forward to working with home builders across the state to ensure Arkansas remains a great place to live and gr...
